Barbell
Types
A Barbell is made of a steel bar, nearly 2 meters long and 2.54 cm in diameter. The grip has a criss-cross pattern and plates can be attached from the ends to attain required weight. There are collars to avoid the weights from slipping. Barbells are of two types. The Standard Barbells have 10 kg weight and are 1 inch wide. Olympic Barbells have 20 kg weight and are 2 inches wide. The EZ curl bar has a zigzag grip which facilitates a very natural hold and minimizes stress injury in the biceps curl exercise.
Exercises
In the Bench Press, the user rests his back on the bench. He hold the barbell on his chest with both hands. Then he pushes them up and down. The chest muscles and triceps are developed. In the Lunge, the user stands in such a way that the distance between the feet is equal to the distance between the shoulders. Then the barbell is held on top of the neck and shoulders. One foot is moved forwards. The back foot is bent in such a way that the knee just touches the floor. The user returns to the starting position. The same procedure is repeated for the other foot. It is more safe than the squat especially for the users having back problems. For the Deadlift, a barbell is raised from the ground in a steady bent situation. The hips, buttocks, calves and thighs are profited from this exercise. In the Biceps Curl, the user has to stand straight with a few inches distance between the feet. The barbell is held with a below handed grip. Elbows should be kept close to the body. The barbell is moved upward and downwards. In the Good morning, the barbell is grasped on the shoulders, behind the head. The user bows forward from the hips as if greeting another person. Then he returns to straight position.
