Many a times, a buyer of a treadmill is confused as there are numerous models and types of treadmills. However, it is very important for him to choose the right type of treadmill that suits his body frame and type of workout. In this situation, the best option is to go for treadmill ratings. There are two types of treadmill ratings, namely, consumer treadmill ratings and Expert treadmill ratings.

Experts in the fitness industry write expert treadmill ratings. Some examples are Consumer Reports, Runner’s World, Men’s Health and Prevention magazine. These people rate and review a variety of treadmills at various times in a year. Though these ratings are unbiased, it is very important to remember few things. Each rater has a different rating system, and he may rate treadmills on factors like price, cushioning, stability, quietness, and warranty.

Some other factors are belt area, console, electronics, programs, incline, and quality of parts. It may happen that one reviewer puts emphasis on one factor and another on the other factor. So, it does not mean that one machine is superior in quality than other machine. Moreover, it is observed that expert ratings generally do not have time to consider every treadmill brand in market. So, just because a certain brand is not in the ratings, does not make it a low quality brand. It is important to remember that most of the treadmill ratings are also based on comparison to other equally priced treadmills in market. So a $ 2000 priced treadmill cannot be compared with one having price $ 500.

When buying a treadmill, it is recommended to pay attention to after sales service. Other important things to look for are horsepower and motor speed. Weaker motors wear out simply. It is to be remembered not to look for peak horsepower, but for continuous duty horsepower. Treadmills are generally built for either walking or running, and not for both. So it is good to choose the one that fits user’s activity needs.
