Inflated balance disc
The Balance Disc is made of soft and flexible PVC. It is to be filled with air. Usually, one of the surface has spikes and other has pebbles. It can be used by deflating to 1" thickness or inflating to 2" thickness. It is portable and offers stimulation. During sitting, standing and lying exercises it provides intramuscular coordination. It shapes muscles, progresses balance and stabilizes joints. It is also helpful in autism.
Uses
The Balance disc is devised for abdomen muscles, balance training and as an alternate for sitting on an exercise ball. It comes in two sizes. When it is used, one is subjected to a slightly altering and unsteady surface. As the user moves, the air in the disc moves. The user has to employ his body muscles to steady the body. The main objective of using the balance disc is to learn to react, recover and achieve balance of the body. It can also be used as a cushion on the seat in offices for stimulation of abdomen and back muscles. It can also be used as a floor seating in day care centers. Sports lovers can take it to the stadium. Kids are easily attracted towards it. For them, unknowingly some skills get developed while playing with the disc. Some models have a needle valve instead of a valve plug. They can retain air for a better time span. To achieve inflation, the needle from the pump handle is removed and made wet. The valve is found near the top surface. The needle is introduced in the valve and simultaneously the pump is used to fill air. Air is inserted inside to the required pressure. The air volume can be effortlessly adjusted using the pump.
Advantages
Some balance discs are manufactured from soft molded foam. The foam density is medium and on the top there is a lined grip pattern. Its advantages are that there aren't seams or glue lines. Bacteria or mildew cannot gather near the foam. It is very soft and does not abrade the skin. So scratching or chafing of the skin does not occur. It serves the need of portable exercise equipment.
